Absinthe, the traditional French liqueur with possible hallucinogenic properties, was consumed by the great artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. Verlaine, Rimbaud, Van Gogh, Degas, Gauguin, all of whom painted and wrote poetry under Oscar Wilde’s "Green Fairy".
An aniseed-flavoured drink, very much in vogue in the literary cafés that populated Montmartre's famous Place du Tertre, was a source of inspiration for the aptly named Fou d'Absinthe. Pine needles and patchouli create the perfect balance to the star, star anise.
